One of my favorite Family Fun Day is coming again: the Sunday Drive to Ulupalakua!  As you all know, I regularly promote this event here on A Maui Blog.   My kids and I had so much fun the first time we attended a Sunday Drive To Ulupalakua, so we keep looking forward to the next one.

Locals and visitors alike will enjoy this event, guaranteed.  There you will experience a Hawaiian kine gathering – a laid back celebration filled with great music, fun talk story, fine wine and onolicious food.

Let’s start with great music.  This coming weekend’s celebration is packed with talented local artists: Brittni Pavia, Cyril Pahinui & Peter Moon, Jr.  and Uncle Benny Uyetake.   As you can see, I linked up their names to a video of theirs, but that’s just a teaser.  It’s really a whole new experience to hear them live.

Next is the “talk story”.  From noon to 1pm, Dorothy Terada Makata will lead a talk story in the winery pavillion. Dorothy’s father Mitsuji Terada was bookkeeper of Ulupalakua Ranch for 45 years, and Dorothy was born in her family’s home on the ranch in 1928. From her childhood growing up among the paniolo, she has many stories to tell, giving her lucky listeners a rare and fascinating glimpse into Maui’s past.

And then, the ono food!  This is actually my kids’ favorite up there. We love going to the Ulupalakua Ranch Store and Deli.  Walking to the store is a treat in itself – a lot if fun things to look at (and buy).  The deli are made with fresh local ingredients from sandwiches to salads, to hot lunches.  My son said they have the best burger in the whole world.

My friend @jamarilyn brought her visiting sister Pam to one of the Ulupalaku events and she took a video of Uncle Benny singing while guests eat their lunch at the Deli.  This is an unedited, spontaneous video with all the talk story in the background 🙂

Details on the upcoming Ulupalakua Remembers for this weekend is posted here.  Check it out and I hope to see you there.
