Was pretty bummed when they closed the Borders Express stores in Whalers Village and the Lahaina Cannery Mall, but the Barnes and Noble picked up pretty well where they left off.
We stopped there last trip to find a different guidebook for Hana other than Maui Revealed, and ended up spending almost an hour looking through some the Hawaiiana books instead. Sure, guidebooks are great and those photo books are lovely, but those that haven’t looked through some of the books that document and focus on some of the beauty of old Hawaiian culture, Hawaiian mythology, and tales from the missionary days are really missing out on the whole picture.
I am too a big fan of the Hawaiiana book sections and am bummed about the Borders locations in Lahaina. I will say however, last time I left Hawaii I got hit with a huge excess baggage weight charge… I still shop for books when there but my boyfriend no longer lets me purchase them. I simply write down titles and order them when I get home 😉
You are SO SO SO LUCKY to have such a selection! I am on the east coast and recently went to B&N just to get a Hawaii picture book (coffee table book) and NOTHING! So frustrating. That’s alright. We’ll be back in the islands next month! 🙂
